Google for Education

Fuel the Future.

The best of Google, for education.

Access to information is changing the way we communicate, work and learn—even though classrooms may not look that different. With the answer to any question always a click away, technology can make learning possible for everyone, anywhere.

At Google, we’re all about solving problems. Sometimes practically and other times with wild, imaginative—or even unimaginable—solutions. The technology we build and the programs we create are meant to turn curiosity into action. That’s why we have a vested interest in learning in all forms, and a commitment to make it equally possible.

Our goal is to help more students feel engaged and love learning, to encourage their curiosity, to let them work together, to explore and create, to try something new, to make stuff and to always try again.

Since behind every student are great teachers, we also focus on building products and tools designed for the classroom that help educators do what they do best, even better.

A solution built for teachers and students.

Collaboration and communication platform Google Apps for Education: a suite of free productivity tools for classroom collaboration. Never any ads and the data is yours.

Microsoft in Education

Empowering every student to achieve more

At Microsoft, our mission is to empower every person and every organisation on the planet to achieve more. Core to this mission is creating immersive and inclusive experiences that inspire lifelong learning, stimulating development of essential life skills and supporting educators in guiding and nurturing student passions.

We empower students and educators – both in and out of the classroom – to create and share in entirely new ways; to teach and learn through exploration; and to adapt to individual learning needs, so they can make, design, invent and build with technology.

We understand that while technology cannot replace great teaching, it can make great teachers even better. Technology in the classroom should be transparent, empowering educators and students to focus on learning outcomes. This means providing learning material from any devices, online or offline. Configurable tools help protect student information by helping to block damaging malware and undesirable content and apps. Through strong integrations with partners, we provide tools to manage how students use devices in the classroom, and an unparalleled breadth of Windows devices that can appeal to every need and every price point.  And experiences that work anytime, anywhere, on any device – Web, PC, Mac, iOS and Android. This simplicity lets educators focus purely on the learning of their students.

Coding for Life!

Fuhua Primary School

Fuhua Primary School aims to equip every student with 21st CC skills that will prepare him/her for the future workforce. Applying coding skills in authentic scenarios is what Fuhua Primary School challenges their students to engage in at every level.

The Applied Learning Programme integrates computational thinking and future problem-solving skills to equip students to identify and address community issues harnessing coding skills acquired. For computational thinking, students undergo learning processes that progress from basic computational skills to more advanced skills. Students are engaged in small group learning to promote collaboration and a problem-solving disposition, brainstorming for the most effective and sustainable solution(s) to a given situation. Each situation is designed to be authentic so as to provide students with opportunities to prototype their ideas and test their feasibility.

For example, at Primary 4, through the exploratory process of debugging a problematic code, students learn about the properties of a square in Mathematics. Coupled with coding skills, students are also equipped with future problem-solving skills that require them to identify problems experienced by the community and apply their acquired coding skills to draw up solution(s) to solve the problems.

With the advancement in the use of technology in the society, it is critical for schools to expose and equip students with opportunities to tinker with and harness technology for the betterment of lives!

Temasek Secondary School

Temasek Secondary School offers TICTEd (Temasek ICT Education), a school-based subject, to all lower secondary Express and Normal (Academic) students as Normal (Technical) students are offered Computer Applications. The main objective of TICTEd is to provide equal opportunities for all students to be equipped with essential ICT skills.

The TICTEd curriculum covers baseline ICT skills as well as ICT skills for communication and collaboration. Recognising that coding is fast becoming a core skill for students today, the school introduced coding to all sec 2s in 2014. To cater to students who demonstrated great interest in coding after the basic coding course, the school participated in the “Code for Fun” programme sponsored by IDA at the end of 2014.

Since then, all sec 1s and 2s are taught coding skills by Allied Educators in the school. The school is also looking forward to offering Computing as an ‘O’ level subject to upper secondary students from 2017.

Maker Programme

The rise in the Maker movement has led to a new paradigm in unstructured and self-motivated learning through making and prototyping. The availability of open hardware and accessible tools and technologies has lowered the barrier to Science and Engineering all the way from very young. We will be sharing a multitude of programmes for different ages and target groups, including demonstrations and hands on activities such as a wearable electronics, watercolour robots and Arduino programming for the young. Activities will feature an intersection of arts, crafts and technology and participants can take part to pick up skills such as sewing with electronics and soldering.

FutureSpace @ iCTLT

The FutureSpace@iCTLT is a programme that takes place in the exhibition hall of iCTLT. In this programme, delegates are brought through a series of immersive and interactive activities that that offers a look into possibilities of how they can shape and design learning with the use of technology to impact the future of their students.

In these activities, delegates would be brought through facilitated discussions which are meant to evoke deep and personal emotional responses. These emotions would then be the driving forces that move delegates to think about ideas to bring back to school.

At the end of the programme, delegates would receive a specially designed Conversation Toolkit, which they can then use to start a movement back in school.
